About Me

James River Smallmouth

I’m a dedicated fisherman and have been fishing the James River for Smallmouth Bass for over thirty-five years. One of my favorite movies is A River Runs Through It, the part where Brad Pitt goes through that big rapid while holding on to that fish is my favorite. My kind of guy, willing to drown to hold on to a trophy fish. Many times I have come upon a rapid and made that last cast before going through it, getting the bite and going through the rapid backwards risking everything to hold on to that one fish. Talk about getting your adrenalin pumping! Nothing like it.

I love camping, cooking and fishing on the upper and middle James River.  I fish for all kinds of bass but Smallmouth are the best as far as I’m concerned. I love finding new tricks and tips on canoeing and fishing and enjoy teaching others the tips and tricks that I have learned over the years. I try to spend as much time as life allows me to on the river.

As far a full-time job,  I own a small communications company providing computer/network services here in Virginia. The company supports all the technical aspects of running your business from phones to work stations, servers, routers, switches, structured cabling, copper and fiber. Been in the business for over sixteen years.

My education is pretty broad in scope with a degree in electronics and a journeyman wireman card with the IBEW here in Richmond. I grew up in the computer business with a dad in the business working for an international corporation.

I love to teach and have previously taught for over ten years. Teaching part-time Component Level Electronics for the Richmond Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, J. Sargent Reynolds Community College and Richmond Public Schools.

Some of you may know that I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis. Been in a fight with this disease since 2001 and have seen it get progressively worse. Through the miracle of modern chemistry I can still move around and do some of the things I love to do, one of which is smallmouth fishing. Gets harder every year but I’m determined to not let the RA control my life and stop me from doing the things I love to do. I still have more good days than bad so I figure I’m doing ok. I want others with RA to know that they’re not alone in the fight to find a cure and be able to live a normal life.

Tight Lines!
